Painting outdoors, directly from nature (plein air)has been my passion for many years. Trying to capture nature's beauty in a few short hours is challenging, but also deeply rewarding. There is a spontaneous quality to plein air work I find exciting, but also an emotional, sometimes spiritual side which feeds my inner artist. Over the years I've come to love the process of painting ourdoors as much as the finished results. Whether a painting turns out good or bad, the day is never wasted and the lessons alone are worth the effort.I am a lifelong resident of Kalamazoo and enjoyed a long career as a page designer and illustrator for the Kalamazoo Gazette.In 2008, I founded the Plein Air Artists of West Michigan and served as it's director for 16 years. I began teaching plein air workshops in 2013.
