The Van Singel Fine Arts Center is a
multi-faceted performing and fine arts
facility in Byron Center, Michigan.
Located between Grand Rapids and
Kalamazoo, the Van Singel Fine Arts
Center offers performing arts
enthusiasts a prime venue featuring many
popular national touring productions and
concert performances, focusing on
providing family friendly entertainment
in this state of the art theatre. As
part of the nationally recognized Byron
Center High School, the theatre is
ideally suited to present a wide variety
of events from the national touring
companies and concerts to elaborate high
school productions, satellite
conferences, and spectacular corporate
and private events. The Van Singel has
established itself as a prime venue,
which offers exceptional staging,
lighting and acoustics in an intimate
796-seat theatre.
As a non-profit theatre, the Van Singel,
in partnership with the Kent Career
Technical Center, offers educational
opportunities to students from
throughout Kent County by providing the
county's only area two-year Theatre Arts
Technology Program. This program serves
high school juniors and seniors from
public, private, and home schools. The
theatre arts technology program teaches
valuable school-to-work career studies
for students interested in pursuing
careers in theatre stage technology or
to pursue theatre arts technology at
area colleges and universities.
Regionally, the Van Singel offers
daytime educational and entertainment
performances, which are geared toward
school groups K through 12. In the past,
the Van Singel has presented The Ugly
Duckling starring Pinky The Flamingo,
the Grand Rapids Symphony Lollipops
presentation of Peter and the Wolf and
collaborations with the Grand Rapids
Ballet. Circle Presents, Chamber Theatre
Productions and American Theatre For
Children have used this facility to
present many of their daytime school
shows.
The Gainey Gallery, an integral
component of this diverse facility
located in the lobby, is an art gallery
featuring a different artists or art
group each month from September through
July. The Gainey Gallery is open free to
the public Monday through Friday, 12
noon to 5 p.m. and during evening or
weekend performances. Summer hours
(June-August) are
Monday through Thursday, 12 pm-5 pm.
The Van Singel Fine Arts Center is
also available for rent and is a popular
facility used by many performing arts
presenters, civic groups, national dance
competition groups and
corporations for events or meetings.
